Here are just a few of the things I've learned along the way...
I cannot help Steve back up the trailer. Not because I'm not willing but because I suck at it! Or maybe Steve's communication skills suck? Either way...we need help or this trip will end badly for one of us!
My kids are lazy! That's right, I am THAT parent who has raised a couple of kids who will not be able to fend for themselves.
I have a love/hate relationship with my dogs. Life was so much easier when I could just let them out the back door in the morning while I made a cup of coffee. Now, I have to get them leashed, walk them, clean up after them and convince them to go back inside before I can make that first cup.
Entertaining in the camper is so much easier than at home! My camper stays clean because everyone stays outside. The food, company and entertainment is all outside. There is no reason to go in the camper except for a tour. I will take this lesson back to my sticks and bricks house. No more company inside the house! Lol
I really don't need all this junk! We brought everything with us except the furniture. I spent months prior to this trip donating and giving things away so we didn't have to put anything in storage. We left the furniture for our "house sitting" friend. After about two months of travel, I am ready to purge again. I brought way too much!
My kids aren't antisocial...they are anti-stupid! That kid at the pool who doesn't want to share the ball that MY kid brought to the pool is likely to get their feelings hurt.
I am running out of patience...and fast. The guy at the repair shop doesn't stand a chance if he tells me he can't overnight a part.
Homeschooling is WAY more fun on the road!! The kids are learning about bridges and each time we pass or driver over a bridge there is conversation about the engineering. Art is more inspiring outdoors! And reading a good book in a comfy chair in 70° weather is priceless!
We are much more active on the road. Walking the dogs, riding bikes, swimming, exploring a new city...all things we were less inclined to do back at home. We are eating healthier, too. There isn't much room to store food and most of what we buy is fresh. We grill a lot and use most leftovers for salads.
We are ALL tech junkies! We all understood our wifi would be limited while we were moving from campground to campground. But there was an expectation that most of America had wifi access. This is not the case. Not only is wifi not dependable, cell service is questionable as well. Seriously? I can't make a phone call? I can't check Facebook? No texting? I started working for a cell phone company back in 1996. Two decades later there are still places without service...lots of places!!
Overall, this trip has been an amazing adventure so far. It's stressful to move from week to week and not know where we will be staying but we always manage to find a perfect spot! We have met so many wonderful people and experienced some great towns.
I can't wait to see where we end up next...
