Afterwards we packed up and headed to the country store that Karen's parents are remodeling in the mountains north of Roanoke, VA. They we kind enough to put in full hookups for us right in the backyard, so we are just east of the James River backed right up to the national forest. Hummingbirds and Orioles are flying about, we saw about 20 deer down off the road, clouds are rolling over the mountains...it's absolutely gorgeous and totally relaxing.
We had a bit of a surprise for Steph when she arrived. Her cousin Madison designed a 12 foot vinyl banner that they had everyone sign and they hung it from the balcony on the front of the store. A very cool idea and a totally sweet gesture.
Yesterday we had a second service for Karen's grandfather who past a few weeks back. He spent a good chunk of his life in this area and there was a good turnout for the service. We were even lucky enough to meet his sister and her daughters who came in from out of town. It was an absolute pleasure and I think we'll add them to our list of stops along our journey. I'm not sure when exactly, but we will see them again I'm sure!
The next step from here is to put the plan together to get to Ohio. My dad is getting married in a couple of weeks and he asked me to be his best man, so that should be an experience! We'll probably spend a couple days in West Virginia, then head on up to Bellefontaine for the wedding. I'm hoping to stay at Kamp-a-lot right outside of Zanesfield, which used to be owned by my great grandfather. That will be a real treat.
Oh...I forgot to mention that we picked up this beauty in Virginia Beach before we left. I think it looks awesome! I can't wait to hang it out in a campground. Hopefully we'll see a few hits because of it!
Anyway...more exciting adventures to come. Hopefully you'll see some posts from the rest of the gang this week as we'll have some r&r time here in the mountains. Stay tuned!
