If I had it to do all over again...

This trip has exceeded my expectations. From amazing landscapes and wonderful small towns to incredibly educational museums and the nicest, most welcoming people any where in the world, I have gotten more out of this adventure than I planned.

I thought for sure I would go along on this journey and check off the cities we visited, never needing to visit again. This couldn't have been further from what has happened. We all have been places that we can't wait to go back to. There are things in many cities we didn't get to see. Our bucket lists have grown longer and our desire to travel has only gotten bigger.

Some of our favorite towns have been Door County, WI, Devils Lake, WI, Walker, MN, Amana, IA and Zanesville, OH. We have walked across the headwaters of the Mighty Mississippi, shopped at the largest mall in America, hiked bluffs formed by glaciers long ago, eaten at some amazing local restaurants, and made some lovely new friends along the way.

We have been on the road for about five months now and as we make our way south I can't believe this leg of our journey is almost over. While it sometimes feels like a long vacation, we definitely feel at home.

If I could go back and do this trip all over again I would plan to stay longer at most of our stops. It would allow us to experience more at each town and to just slow down our travels. It has become time consuming to research the next city to find a reasonable campground to meet our needs. We also seem to always run out of time to explore.  Further, I would have rented out our house sooner. We have had a close friend house sit and I find comfort knowing it is in good hands but it would be nice to not have to pay the mortgage each month. We will be working with a management company after the first of the year to get it ready to rent.

We now have plans in New Mexico next October. I guess we will need to find another river to follow because the Mighty Mississippi won't take us to the balloon festival in Albequerque. The kids and I want to see snow in 2016 and I'd love to be in DC to see the cherry blossoms in the spring. No matter the destination...our adventure will continue!
